Quick Geek news

via Kotaku.com

It’s not all esoteric Japanese idol guff and news about “Battlefield 3” minutiae over at Kotaku – today they’ve got a neat gallery of “Tron” concept art, too.

Sister site, io9, meanwhile has a fun op-ed piece on how to beat the curse of having too many villains in your superhero flick.  Particularly fond of the idea of using a second-string bad guy at the beginning of a movie to show the hero or heroine going about their daily business.

Diesel versus Statham? And you thought "Fast Five" had an excess of testosterone...

Den of Geek, meanwhile, have an interesting titbit on the next two (!) “Fast & Furious” movies been filmed back-to-back.  Cinematic tough-guy/hard-boiled egg Jason Statham is apparently also in talks.

Amidst other things of nerdy note, Topless Robot have a fun promo for season two of Zombie drama “The Walking Dead”, which is tantalisingly close to a UK air date.  So tantalisingly close, in fact, that I fully expect it to be snapped up by Sky and slapped onto one of their pay channels which we Virgin Media cable paupers don’t get.  Don’t give them any ideas, Fluffrick…

“The Avengers” – more new pics online.

Scarlett Johansson's anti-paparazzo measures surprised some...

Perhaps in a bid to avert some of the negative responses to “The Avengers” portraits in last week’s issue of “Entertainment Weekly”– particularly Mark Ruffalo’s spectacular ‘Blue Steel’ lookMarvel have released some new pictures which are not quite as silly as last week’s tranche.  Not so much with the goofy posed portraits, more with the on-set stills.  And explosions.

Empire has a story, as does ComingSoon.net.

“The Avengers” is scheduled to open in the UK on Friday 27 April 2012.

“Rogue Trooper” movie incoming?

Interesting rumblings of a “Rogue Trooper” film project today, according to a post over at Empire magazine’s website.

"2000AD" readers of a certain age are choking up, right about now...

In development over at “Avatar” star Sam Worthington’s production company, with a screenplay intriguingly being worked on by comics icon Grant Morrison, this all seems a cut above the usual talent pressed into service on a project like this.

comics icon, actual visionary and mate of Gerard Way...

Which is to say, I’m particularly cheered to see Morrison at work on this project and not Johnny Screenwriter Du Jour – somebody who has actually written for “2000AD” is always going to be preferable to somebody who’s just writing on assignment.

With this in the works and a “Judge Dredd” movie – dare we hope for a “D.R. & Quinch” movie, too?
