Quick Geek News – 16/10/2011

Hey up.  Fancy some quick geekiness?

All the way from Asgard to your multiplex in 2013...

“Thor 2” is on. It’s out in November 2013, has a director in the form of Patty Jenkins (who directed “Monster”, the Aileen Wournos biopic which won Charlize Theron an Oscar) and features your man Loki – which kind of suggests that he survives “The Avengers” unscathed.  More at Den of Geek.

Nic Cage and Eva Mendes in the original "Ghost Rider".

io9 were at New York Comic Con this weekend and saw footage from “Crank” directors Taylor and Neveldine’s “Ghost Rider” sequel, ‘Spirit of Vengeance’.  It’s looking better than the first film (which I have a soft spot for) and appears to have all of the subtlety, restraint and good taste which you would expect from the auteurs behind the “Crank” series. Can’t wait, but I’ll have to – it’s due out on 22 February 2012 in the UK.

Indirectly inspired classic "Simpsons" characters Kodos & Kang - all hail Rod Serling and "The Twilight Zone"

The great Warner Brothers director talent search for their “Twilight Zone” project has found a man behind the megaphone – “Cloverfield” and “Let Me In” man Matt Reeves.  It’s not going to be an anthology – more a large-scale science fiction action film – and hopefully will keep some of that classic Rod Serling eerieness intact. More at Slashfilm.

Are we saying Taylor Lautner? We're saying Taylor Lautner, aren't we? Bobbins.

As there’s clearly not enough remakes of Eighties movies being made, add another one to your slate – The writers of “Fringe” and “Thor” are penning a “Top Gun” remake per the nice people at The Film Stage.

Remakes? Remodels? Creative bankruptcy? Surely not.
