Together again, Sly and Arnold in “The Tomb”

It’s like it’s the 1980’s never went away.

Sly in the last "Rambo" or random mid-western death metal bassist. You decide.

Sylvester Stallone’s next action thriller, prison escape yarn “The Tomb”, is going to benefit from the support of another  pair of experienced biceps with the news that Arnold Schwarzenegger has joined the cast.

The Austrian Oak. And a tree.

He’ll apparently be playing a mysterious lifer banged up in the escape-proof maximum security prison that Stallone’s security guru designed and now finds himself unjustly imprisoned in (Don’t you just hate it when that happens?).

This prime slice of wish-fulfilment ass kicking for middle-aged dudes (a demographic I find myself teetering towards joining with each day that progresses) is being directed by Mikael Hafstrom – who previously brought you the above-average Stephen King adaptation “1408” and Anthony Hopkins horror drama “The Rite”.

Just that log-line has me grinning from ear to ear as I type these words – what price, oh kind casting gods, of the awesome Michael Ironside being cast as the no doubt ruthless head warder?  Make it happen – you know it makes sense.

You’ll be able to join me in stampeding to your local cineplex for some prime, grade-A, action movie melted cheesy goodness when the dynamic duo show up in “The Expendables 2” or when “The Tomb” opens in 2013.
