“Call of Duty: Black Ops 2” announced

Image

Well, that’s Autumn sorted for a lot of gamers – Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 announced • News • Eurogamer.net.

I’m not one of those players – action RPG nerds who play as Rogue Female Elves for the win! – but I fully expect this latest episode of the annual FPS franchise to dominate sales chart and mind share in the games community for the latter part of this year.  It’s the go-to shooter for many a gamer and remains seemingly unstoppable at the retail counter, predictable annual controversies notwithstanding…

Expect a proper reveal (and trailer) tonight and more hype when E3 rolls around in the summer.

Matt and Liam’s Axe Wound

Supergroup - how much more Seventies can a phrase be?

That is to say, lead vocalist of Bullet For My Valentine, Matt Tuck, and Cancer Bats screamer Liam Cormier, who’ve joined their not inconsiderable lungs to form Metal supergroup, Axe Wound, along with various escapees from Rise to Remain, Pitchshifter and Glamour of the Kill.

What a lovely name for a band – you could bring it home to meet your parents and everything.  Ahem.

You can grab a track from the band by shamelessly hitching your e-mail address to their Tumblr blog and take in a sound which apparently skews more towards the likes of Slipknot than Bullet’s ‘crunchy old school riffs and massive choruses’ blueprint.

As a fan of both Bullet’s sing-along anthems (if not their frequently paint-strippingly bad lyrics) and Cancer Bats’ cheery punky abandon (go watch this glorious video for “Lucifer’s Rocking Chair”), I’m down with this side-project for Messrs Tuck and Cormier, albeit a little bemused how it fits into both groups’ touring plans for 2012, as both bands have albums out this year and now this side-project is in the mix, too.

Axe Wound are on for Download this June and some of the European summer festivals – who knows what lies beyond that?

Trailered: “The Dark Knight Rises”

Happy Tuesday, everyone – have a trailer for the forthcoming Christopher Nolan opus, “The Dark Knight Rises” in your ocular cavities!

Image

If “The Avengers” is akin to a particularly delicious veggie bean burger in a sour dough roll with hot sauce, lettuce and mustard (go with me here), then The Dark Knight Rises looks like a particularly ornate three course meal with a decent cup of coffee following it.

Also, in related news, I’m now quite hungry.  Curses!

Hey, Hey, it's Anne Hathaway!

I’m amazed at how Christopher Nolan has managed to keep up the quality of his reinvention of the cinematic Batman for two excellent movies and it seems as though his aesthetic and storytelling choices show no sign of running out of steam if this trailer is to be taken as any evidence.

Image

No spoilers seem to be revealed herein – just tantalising hints about Bane, Bruce and the nature of the character played by Marion Cotillard and action sequences which look to one-up the large-scale mayhem liberally peppered throughout “The Dark Knight”.  This is the same Christopher Nolan, mind you, who according to the internet can’t direct action sequences.

This will end well...

And now a pause for a chuckle at the bonkers gall of that notion.  Oh, internet nerd defence forces, don’t ever change…

“The Dark Knight Rises” will, assuming everything goes to plan, be obliterating box office records at a cinema near you from July 20th…
