“Avengers” Assemble Soundtrack…

Music to be Tony Stark by...

So, you were expecting Selena Gomez, perhaps?

In a move which boldly pitches their soundtrack album firmly at middle-aged rockers, the clever folk at Marvel have decided that this summer’s “Avengers” movie will benefit strongly from a soundtrack composed largely of the musical genre known as ‘Butt Rock’.

Is this really Joss Whedon’s taste in music?  Because, if it is, I’ve just extended my man-crush on him to an absurd degree.

The big news in the soundtrack listing is the first new material from the reunited Soundgarden , “Live to Rise”, which you can hear a brief sample of here.   Riff which might take your face off? Check.  Bass for your face?  Check.  Popular kind of flannel shirt? Check.

Elsewhere on the soundtrack, you’ve got your new (Black Veil Brides), your  grunge and nu-metal survivors (Bush, Papa Roach, Buckcherry), your ‘active rock’ power-players (Shinedown, Theory of a Deadman, Five Finger Death Punch) and your inexplicable (drum and bass godhead Photek remixing Evanescence.  Huh?)

Nu-Metal divas assemble! (Just don't kick me with your cyber-goth boots, Amy)

Mild snark notwithstanding, I am all over this soundtrack like a slavering fanboy who just realised that there’s less than a month to go before he gets to go and see “Avengers Assemble” with Mrs Rolling Eyeballs.  It’s quite possible that this track listing is not your kettle of salmon, but I’m almost predestined on a genetic level to like this stuff – crunchy loudness makes Fluffrick happy!

Excelsior!  Ahem…

Amy Lee – “Rock in Rio” pics

Any blogger worth their salt keeps an eye on their statistics – who’s viewing your posts, where they came to you from, which links they clicked.  If you’re a gamer, this is doubly concerning, as it can become a weird meta-game, replete with obsessive stat counting and refreshing of pages.

Evanescence's short-lived tenure as a goth street gang bemused some fans...

With that in mind, one of the most searched for results which has brought someone to my blog is ‘Amy Lee’, erstwhile lead singer and band leader of Evanescence.  Who would have thunk it?  Still, I’m glad to see that people are reading and who am I to not give people what they want?

Evanescence are back after a few years hiatus and fans are obviously keen to find out what they’re up to in the run up to the release of their self-titled third album.  ‘Making Kelly Clarkson cry’ is one unexpected answer.  Amy Lee’s Twitter, meanwhile, is here.

There’s a stream of new song “My Heart is Broken” over at the official site, with a handy lyric sheet for your perusal.  You might also want to check out the current issue of US rock mag “Revolver”, which features Ms Lee on the cover as part of their annual (and ever so slightly reductively sexist) ’25 Hottest Chicks in Hard Rock’ issue.

I did think that we were a bit past that stuff, but a band’s gotta get press in this climate, I guess.
